Hey,
I have no idea where you live, but there is apparently an abundance of independent film societies around the world. The particular one I am a member of has many headshots of actors (most older than midtwenties), who are eager to act in films. But seeing as how they are people who are attempting to become 'serious' actors, it will really depend on the individual's disposition seeing as how this will be your first 'serious' film, and I assume you don't want to pay anyone. I also recommend trying local theatre companies, and particularly recommend any improv comedy theatres/clubs, because they often have people ranging in age, and they are often eager to cultivate new projects. And I would just go and talk to the police, and see what their thoughts are, if you are nice, polite, and relatively flexable with scheduling, I imagine they shouldn't have any problem with it. At any rate, good luck.

I've just written the 2nd version of "Music of the eighties: the hitman". It's a short and 17 pages long, and it's the first real serious thing I actually plan on shooting.
I need cooperation of the police. I want to shoot in a jail-cell and walk around with guns. I've written it in a way that I don't need to necessarily fire them in front of a camera, although it would really look cool of course.
Then I need OLD actors! I can of course ask my mum and dad, but they suk. So I don't know if you have many old acting friends, but when you're shooting something involving old people and you dont have them as your friends, how on earth do you get them? And has anyone else had to do deal with cops before shooting something too?
If i get every permission and such I think it'll be a really cool movie.

To join, my friend and I just showed up, got their location out of the yellow pages, and got a tour of the facilities and joined. If you are just looking for actors, theatre companies are your best bet, or some sort of post secondary drama program has also been a source for us. Just slap up a poster in the drama department of a university and you are bound to get a few calls.

hi emjen,
I also live in Holland and can recommend you the following dutch site when you're looking for actors: www.nftvm.nl Nftvm stands for 'nieuwe film en televisiemakers'. A lot of people post on the 'prikbord' forum looking for actors, crew, etcetera, mostly no-budget.
Laterz.

transferring from video to film... it would probably cost a lot, but it really sounds like a great idea. If it's going to turn out as I want to then I might concider entering festivals or something like that.
BUt how on earth do you tranfser from video to film?
And thanks for the site phantom.

as far as i understood it, trasfering to film costs $$$ and is best left to distribution type scenarios only, for festivals video will be sufficient i would imagine. Besides, DVDs would be a cool way to show the movie cheaply.

My advice is to shoot on video, and if it's good, and festivals need it on film, then do the transfer. Just transferring it to film for the sake of having it on film is a pointless and costly process.
As for actors, yeah, do the whole theatre thing. Thats probably your best bet.
And as for the guns, definetely get the cooperation of the police. As long as they know exactly what you're doing, and as long as you're professional about everything, they should help you out.
